Laboratory of Wood Technology

The Timber Processing Chair (Department) was established in 1979, at the initiative of the Estonian wood industry. The opening of the Timber Processing Chair at TUT enabled the preparation of engineers for the field of timber processing in Estonia.

The main objective of the department is:

  • 1. to prepare engineers with a university education, who can creatively find their way in the issues of the timber sector of the Republic of Estonia;
  • 2. develop research for purposeful use of Estonia’s timber resources.

The Timber Processing Chair provides professional knowledge, mainly in the fields of mechanical timber processing, and production of timber plates, plywood, and furniture. Optional courses enable specialization in the field of chemical processing of timber and timber composites.
